The Social Life Skills Showcase on the 7th August 2025 at Reading Borough Council included a panel discussion and interactive Q&A session.

The panel was hosted by Keith Seville, the panellists were Iman Seville; Psychology Graduate/Tutor, Leon Ifayomi; Director of Coalitions and Research, Jada Samuel; Customer Service Specialist, Irma Aleshe; Transformation Coach/Mentor.

The discussion included miscommunication and misunderstanding that is a barrier to effective communication. The role of interpretation and the importance of understanding and clarity to ensure successful communication. Phone snubbing ‘Phubbing’ which is scrolling on your phone while having a conversation.

Fluid mentoring which is a two way relationship that helps both the mentor and mentee. Intergenerational communication that occurs when people of different generations speak which helps to build a stronger relationship between young and older people. Also the community ecosystem that facilitates and develops effective communication for young people.
