Confronting Disparity: Womens Health and Race Conference at Reading University on the 15th September 2025 was a thought provoking and much needed conference that addressed the health disparities for Black women in the NHS. as well as offering solutions and actions to drive meaningful change.

 

Dr Annabel Sowemimo, the author of Divided: Racism, Medicine and Why We Need to Decolonise Healthcare was the keynote speaker.

Jane Harry, Team Lead Tissue Viability Berkshire Healthcare gave an informative presentation about the new NHS skincare tool and how it’s addressing bias in bruising assessment.

Panel discussions about Misogynoir in Healthcare featuring Safina Nadeem; EDI Director/Frimley System Lead, Yvonne Mhlanga; Mental Health Detentions, and Marva Williams; Menopause Coach.

Breakout sessions with discussions about Self Advocacy, Cultural Competence in Healthcare and Allyship in Action. The results of these breakout sessions were shared with Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
